Communication between Protected Areas - Work package 6

Objectives

Improvement of the communication between the protected area management structures.

Main Activities

- Establishment of a data flow of experiences in management of the territories concerned
- Improved management plans for PA?s through exchanges
- Organization of 4-days training sessions for protected areas staff and public institutions involved in nature protection (2)
- Organization of seminars/conferences (1 conference, 2 seminars) for the definition of common criteria and indicators for management strategies and measures of sustainable land use.
- Improvement of networking between the protected areas: development of an internal communication tool, as a reserved-access section of the common internet-based platform (WP 4) opened only to the project partners.

Outputs and Results

- Organisation of the International Symposion for research in protected areas in Kaprun (Hohe Tauern National Park) in September 2005. More than 150 participants. The conference volume is available in English on this webpage (in "Downloads" part) or in paper version by the Hohe Tauern National Park.


- Co-organisation by Alparc and the Nature parks office South Tirol of the First seminar about indicators and efficiency of protected areas' management. The seminar held in Toblach (Italy) in May 2006 was followed by a second one in May 2007 in Cogne (Italy). 40 persons from 6 alpine coutnries participated and 4 thematic working groups have worked on draft indicators lists.


- Organisation of the First ALPARC training session in October 2006 in Skocjan (Slovenia). This year, the specific thematic was "communication or information" and the target group was the staff dealing with communication, education and public relation issues in the parks.

- Co-organisation by Alparc, the Mont Avic Nature Park and the Gran Paradiso National Park, of the Second seminar about indicators and efficiency of protected areas' management. The seminar held in Cogne(Italy) in May 2007 gave the opportunity to develop the first results of the seminar from 2006. A working group will continue the work on the base of this first results (possible indicators lists). br />

- Organisation of the Second ALPARC training session in September 2007 in Hopfgarten im Defereggental, in Osttirol (Hohe Tauern National Park), target group: protected areas' staff dealing with agriculture and pastlands but also Natura 2000 issues.

- A last output planned in this WP is the development of an exchange platform based on a more developed version of the Alparc website (intra/extra/internet) as central tool for protected areas managers to exchange information and work together. The first part of this internet platform is currently developed within Alpencom. The public part of the platform (homepage) should be online till March 2008.
